It's a fact of infant life - babies cry sometimes, no matter how you try to soothe them. Even healthy newborns may cry several times a day for a total of one to three hours a day. No parent likes to hear a baby cry, but crying is your baby's way of communicating his wants and needs.
Unable to do anything for themselves, babies rely on someone else to provide them with the things they need. Your baby may cry for several reasons: hunger, boredom, discomfort, sleepiness or the stress of trying to cope with the new world around him. As you get used to the sound of his cries, you'll learn how to respond.
If your baby's crying is or becomes unusual or excessive and you can't find a cause and comforting won't help, then talk with your baby's doctor.
