How to Become a Riverside Methodist Volunteer

Riverside Methodist volunteers are required to take certain steps before starting their volunteer responsibilities.

  • Complete a volunteer application.
  • Complete an Authorization to Release Information form for a background check/fingerprinting. A background check/fingerprinting for adults is mandatory in order to become a volunteer. All volunteers must include social security number and signature or the application will not be processed. No fee to the volunteer.
  • Students in high school must be 15 years of age to apply and must have parental consent, sign the student contract and dress code, submit two letters of recommendation and submit a signed parental consent to have the TB test administered.
  • Get a TB test. All volunteers must take an initial two step TB test, and then each year a one step TB test in April. Those wanting to work in the Emergency Room, or Maternity area must take a health assessment. This must be done prior to Orientation. No fee to the volunteer. TB tests are not administered without presenting a valid hospital ID badge.
  • Interview with a staff member in the volunteer office. You will be called to set up an appointment once your application has been processed.
  • Purchase a volunteer uniform.  Uniforms are sold in the Volunteer Office and range from $8 to $23.
  • A badge must be obtained in our ID Badge Center near our Security Department prior to orientation. A valid license or student ID must be presented to obtain a badge. Adults will be fingerprinted at this time with no cost to the volunteer.
  • Attend a New Volunteer Orientation. Orientations are generally held on the third Wednesday 6 - 8:30 pm each month. There is no orientation in December.

Prospective volunteers who have recently been hospitalized must wait six months before volunteering.

Prospective volunteers must be able to work independently and commit to one year and 100 hours per year of service.

Behavioral Health volunteers must be actively working in a recovery program. They must also be sober and have maintained their sobriety for one year consistently prior to initiating their volunteer work.
